Why "Living Democracy"?
A free society requires dedication and commitment. But the willingness to engage steadily decreases. Democracy and freedom is not self-evident as it is based upon the attitudes of its citizens. Of particular concern is that ignorance and disinterest on democracy increases, towards its structures and democratically legitimized institutions in particular.
Though, socially relevant information is available more than ever before (the internet speaks for itself), and therefore democracy seems to be more accessible by transparency, democratic interest and understanding, knowledge on its intrinsic nature and correlations went further down rapidly - especially among the younger generation.
The purpose of "Living Democracy" is strengthening knowledge about democracy and its values; but beyond that, too, because it's evident to work out societal competence, understanding democracy and the sense for it; what threatens it, and why it is still worthwhile to stand up for it.
"Living Democracy" pioneers motivation and savvy on societal issues. The site does not address topics that appeal to democracy only, but also to those are relevant in a broader sense; those that are important because of its characteristic nature related to each democratic aspect. Just this is how terms like freedom, civic rights, and justice become comprehensible by interested ones, and can be classified mentally tangible.
Substantial impartment of readings deliver information and knowledge available on demand. This is the way of sharing tacit knowledge and opinions on democracy, politics & society.
